Here are pictures taken on the first morning after the damage.

February 8, 2014 – On Friday January  31, 2014 at approximately 3am a PVC pipe failed in the women’s washroom on the first floor of the Civic Centre. The water broke through the washroom door and flooded the building. This water reached the Canmore Museum & Geoscience Centre flooding the gift store, Grant Mossop Memorial library, gallery and office spaces.

All artefacts, library books and the collection are safe.

However, there was extensive damage to all carpets, display units and office furniture.

We are continuing to assess the damage with our insurance company.  We are working on a rebuilding plan for the gallery, library and gift shop.  As we develop these fundraising plans we will let you know how you can help.

The Canmore Museum & Geoscience Centre will remain closed until further notice. The Museum staff will be based at the NWMP Barracks, 609 Main Street.  All scheduled events will go ahead.

You can donate to the Canmore Museum & Geoscience Centre by here.

February 2, 2014 –  The Museum will be closed until further notice. From Thurs 6th Feb we will be based at the NWMP Barracks on Main Street.Come visit us there! Our phone number there is 403 678 1955. We anticipate a fax line soon. You can also use the ‘contact us’ tab above to send us a message. We appreciate your support as we move towards New Beginnings.

January 31, 2014 –  This morning at 3A.M. one of the water mains in the Civic Centre broke. Water did come in to the Museum and gift shop.

We are accessing the situation and damage but it appears our collection and posessions are fine. We are currently cleaning up the water.

The Museum hopes to reopen on Thursday 6th February at noon.

We would like to thank you for your concern and for the kind offers of help.

We will update you as we know more.
