Come and celebrate All Hallows Eve at the NWMP Barracks on Saturday, October 31st from 1 pm to 4 pm. Join in with Halloween crafts and games, and listen to witch’s story time. Costumes encouraged.

Our Annual Rock and Fossil Clinic

Saturday October 17, 2015    10am to 3pm

Come join us for our annual CMAGS Rock & Fossil Clinic at the Canmore Civic Centre.  Bring your favourite rocks and fossils for identification by professional geologists, see our geoscience collection, and join in fun crafts and activities.  Guest speakers:

1pm:  Ben Parayankuzhiyil, Lafarge, “Mining Cement in Exshaw – Lafarge’s History and Future”

2pm:  Gerry Stephenson, former Chief Engineer of the Canmore Coal Mine,  “Coal Mining in Canmore – 95 Years in 45 Minutes”

Free admission, all ages are welcome!  Wild (Festival of Eagles) and BBQ (CHLA) outside in the Plaza!

 

Heritage Open House in the Canadian Rockies

Saturday August 8, join us at the NWMP Barracks on Main Street between 11am – 3pm for Mountie activities, crafts and to take part in our Downtown Canmore Heritage Scavenger Hunt/Photo Challenge (with prizes!). Attendance is free and all are welcome.

Miners’ Day Parade and BBQ

Miners’ Day Parade and BBQ is happening on Sat. July 11th from noon! Also, there will be the Lawrence Grassi Book Launch happening at the Plaza at 12:30pm. There will be a small ceremony with 16 dignitaries from Italy plus welcoming speeches from the Mayor and Council. Come join to remember and show appreciation to the generations of miners and their families who shaped our community.

 

Geoscience Open House 2015

Happening on Saturday June 27th from 10 am to 3 pm at the Museum, featuring the first opening of the Canadian Rockies Earth Science Resource Centre. There will also be small previews of the Museum’s Summer Tours including Gerry Stephenson’s Mining Tour. Come discover the geoscientific history of Canmore!

 

Calling all knitting enthusiasts!

Come join the Canmore Museum & Geoscience Centre for World Wide Knitting in Public (WWKIP) day on Saturday, June 13th, from 11 am till 2 pm, in the Civic Centre Atrium. WWKIP is known to be the world’s largest knitter event as we will knit with hundreds of other knitters around the world on the same day!

It will be a casual, social event for knitters – experienced and non-experienced – to come together to celebrate the event! Please bring your yarn, needles, reusable mug, and your friends! There will be coffee and snacks provided.

We are also looking for volunteers who would be able to give a hand in set-up, take-down, or teaching participants how to knit. Please contact the Canmore Museum by email (info@cmags.org) or phone (403-678-2462) if you are interested in joining us in this international event!

The Canmore Museum is providing three super fun programs involving rocks, bones, and even crime solving at the Canmore Barracks! A fantastic way for your child(ren) to spend this summer!

Explore the disastrous effects of the 2013 flood and discuss the remedial measures and redesigned channels of the subdivision! Dates are Saturday July 25th and Wednesday August 5th.

Art in the Park is now open every weekend!

Art in the Park at the NWMP Barracks, 609 Main Street Canmore, is now open every weekend 10am-6pm until Aug 23. Come visit with our Artists and Artisans displaying and selling their art, photography and hand-crafted items.

After the Civic Centre flood in January 2014 we have been working on a new concept for the gallery space at the Museum. We have commenced work on this project which you can visualise by looking at the electronic version of our Exhibit Concept brochure.
